TEENAGERS SCARED TO WRITE AN ESSAY
The
ear tends to be lazy, craves the familiar and is shocked by the inexperienced.
The eye tends to be impatient, craves the novel and is bored by repetition.
Aside
from Mathematics, a lot of students nowadays really think of writing essays and
themes- a nightmare especially if the language that they need to use is
English.
Writing
is like Mathematics. You need a good reasoning. “There is no writing without living.”-
Tals Diaz, ( Philippine Daily Inquirer ) once said. One cannot write without
having experienced something, or at least read about something. “ Write the way
you talk” as the famous line says. And that means you can write about almost
everything under the sun if you can talk about it. Students must accept their
fate because no matter what course you are going to take in college, writing
will always be a part of their curriculum. Start writing, no matter what. The
water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.
Creativity
is allowing yourself to make mistakes but art knows which ones to keep. Most of
us only think that art is just painting, drawing, sculptures, and designing
clothes. We forget that writing is also an art. Art is defined as a branch of
learning; creation of things or beauty or works produced. Or simply, it is a
way of expressing oneself. Like other artworks, a piece of literature or essay
is an expression of one-self. It tells what the writers thinks, feels and
believes. It reflects his/her personality. Write what disturbs you, what you
fear, what you have not been willing to speak about. Be willing to be split
open.
There
is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. Everyone can be a
writer. Screw the fear inside you. You have to love the things that you do for
you to appreciate everything. Writers are the people who stay up past 12am
finishing a story. Writers are the people who are misunderstood and underpaid.
Writers are the people who spent their lives fixing a plot. But behind all of
these they bring to life characters and the world that society they never knew.
Because all they remember is being like you, wanting to escape from reality.
So,
experience writing the way you would experience other forms of art. Keep a
diary or a journal. Most good writers do. Tuck away those precious memories
waiting to be recorded and preserved. They’re the very stuff of good writing.
You don’t have to live an eventful life in order to write. Just do the
necessary mundane things each and every day, weaving together a strong
foundation of memories. Then, write. Express yourself. Be absorbed in the
process. Live life. Write. Write from your heart. Write from your soul. Make
the best of your talent and don’t ever let it go. Not for anything. Write
something great, start small but most of all start writing.
